I had a great time today! Started the day off at the Old West Café, and had a good hearty breakfast. Everyone was nice and kind to me, got a table fast even though it was super packed.
Then decided to go up and see downtown Aubrey, since I love downtown areas and I’ve never been to my own city’s downtown. It was small, just a strip of a couple restaurants, a police and fire station and the Aubrey Chamber of Commerce.
I wanted to see this Lantana Ranch resort, connected to the Ray Roberts State Park, for about a year. So I traveled up North, ran into The Isle du Bois section of the state park, $7 to get in, but you can set up tents, fish off of piers and picnic in the woods. Gorgeous scenery along the way, huge horse ranches and trees. While traveling down 1128, I ran into downtown Pilot Point. Very cute little downtown country area. I bought a coffee at the Sweet Water Coffee House then sat in the little gazebo and enjoyed the weather. The downtown area had an opera house, and a german restaurant called Lowbrows which my father would love. Their tables were big barrels which chairs around them.
They had this car shop, showing off all kinds of cool older cars (see pics). Still love my mustang but it was awesome seeing these cars.
I made it to Lantana Ranch off of 1128, it has hotel-like rooms that face the trees and Lewisville lake. The lodge is very nice complete with hanging buffalo and antler chandelier. They have a gazebo overlooking the lake and hiking trails around. Black Horse Ranch offers horse rentals for equestrian trails around the lake.
Traveled back to downtown Aubrey for lunch at the Mom’s on Main Cafe. Had their delicious BLT triple decker sandwich and loaded baked potato soup.
Took pictures of their local peanut plant. Looked abandoned, not sure if they still process peanuts. It was right next to the railroad and made a great picture for those interested in history. All in all an excellent day for me.
